When Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer cast the Paramount star W. C. Fields for Mr. Micawber, the actor found himself so close in type to the part that he had hardly to make up at all. Clothes, in fact, made the man. This is odd, for Micawber ranks as a fantastic, while Mr. Fields (as this pictures shows) has nothing eccentric in his appearance at all. but that is the way with Dickens. Apparently his people were caricatures; yet you meet their prototypes everywhere you go.
