Robertson Hare as Herbert Holly in "Aren't Men Beasts?"

Like most comedians, Robertson Hare relies for his stage personality on an exaggeration of his natural characteristics. The bald head, the long chin, the firm brows, all are striking features of his ordinary appearance. Indeed it is only by a prim set of the lips and the addition of spectacles that he need alter himself. In Aren't Men Beasts? he spent a considerable part of one act disguised as shown here. The effect was most persuasive. The severe lines of the coat and skirt and Mr. Hare's characteristic primness of expression made him a delightful caricature of a coy spinster.
