As this picture of Mr. Hearne in private life shows, he is a young man of considerable good looks. But in order to enhance the effect of his astonishing agility, and give scope to his gift for low comedy, he usually makes up as a middle-aged, decrepit gentleman whose whole aspect tells of a murky past. The actual make-up is simple enough, consisting of a straggling moustache, and a touching-up of hair and complexion. The real effect of the disguise is obtained by the stiff gait under which his suppleness and strength are concealed.
