Here Ralph Richardson, the famous stage actor and star of London Films, gives a most admirable example of the best kind of character make-up. Compare the two pictures shown here, and you find that Mr. Richardson has used only the most economical means to transform himself from the cheerful, healthy young man of real life to an unhappy invalid of late middle age. Skillfully applied shadows give the impression of leanness, while false hair and powder give the effect of age. But the essence of the character, the tiredness and the despair, come from within.
