Merle Oberon, now star of London Films, has a gentle beauty which is its own chief appeal. On the face of it, therefore, it would seem unlikely that she would be called upon for any very elaborate form of disguise. But somebody realized that she could, without great difficulty, be transformed into a Japanese girl, with the result that for some time she passed all her working hours with almond eyes and yellow skin. this picture shows how effective this make-up was. As a rule, Japanese dress worn by an English girl merely exaggerates everything in the wearer that is not European.
