Upon Martyn Green has fallen the mantle of Sir Henry Lytton, and he wears it with an excellent grace. The actor who plays the lead in the Gilbert and Ssullivan repertory must be no mean master of make-up. Bunthorne in Patience, the twisted hunchback King Gama in The Pirates of Penzance, all present great variety in age and appearance. In fact, an ability to sing Gilbert's complicated patter-songs is almost the only characteristic they all have in common. Here we have another contrast, between Mr. Green's youthful appearance in private life, and his air on knowing old age as The Lord Chancellor.
