On her very first appearance in London, the famous German actress, Lucie Mannheim, proved herself a past-mistress of make-up. She acted Nina, a film star, in the play of that name. Also, under another name, she played Nina's understudy, or "stand in". And even experienced first-nighters had no idea that they were seeing the same actress in both parts.
