Esther Ralston (1902 - 1994). Ralston was brought up in vaudeville but her looks made her a natural for cinema and she was making pictures from 1916. She was a Hollywood fixture throughout the 20s and made the transition to sound with ease. Rome Express and After the Ball are the only films she made in Britain. She returned to Hollywood and continued filming until the early 40s. She then turned to radio and then began a career in business.
