Jessie Matthews

Born London; age 25. Made first stage appearance in 1923 in "The Music Box Review." Her first talking picture, "There Goes the Bride," produced by Albert de Courville, has been hailed as Britain's finest musical talkie.  

 

Jessie Matthews (1907 - 1981). Matthews dominated 30s cinema with classics such as The Good Companions and Evergreen. Her star faded with the 30s, but she found a niche for herself on radio in Mrs Dale's Diary.
