Brigitte Helm (1906 - 1996). Metropolis is a film which would dominate anyone's CV, but Helm had a healthy career in silents as one of the screen's great beauties, starring in classics like Alraune and L'Argent. Her career cooled with the coming of sound though she continued to work steadily. The Blue Danube was her only British film, though she did appear in the English language version of The Countess of Monte Cristo. She retired from film making in 1935 when her contract expired.
