George Robey, C.B.E.

Born London; age 63. England's most famous musical hall artist. Married Ethel Haydon of Melbourne (Vic.) first talking picture, "Marry Me." Recreations: cricket, football, collecting stamps and antiques, water colour painting.

 

Sir George Robey (1869 - 1954). "The Prime Minister of Mirth" is one of the seminal figures of the music hall. He was the star of many silent films, but really came into his own with sound when he became a notable character actor. He starred in Chu Chin Chow, the English version of Pabst's Don Quixote, and was Falstaff in Henry V.
