The 39 Steps is one of the few British films of the 30s that gets recognition abroad. Therefore it's appropriate that it should feature in the first batch of British Film Guides from I.B. Taurus.
The book examines The 39 Steps through pre-production, production, reception to its critical legacy. Mark Glancy tells the film's story clearly and in detail. He's got about 120 pages to play with so there's plenty of room for in-depth analysis.
If this is a typical example of the British Film Guides then the series is well worth supporting.
